Through fun, interactive group discussions, you’ll discover how negative self-talk can hold you back—and more importantly, how to turn those thoughts around. You’ll learn powerful, practical techniques to reframe your mindset, replace negativity with self-belief, and boost your confidence to new heights. This program is specially designed for students in grades 5–12, helping them build resilience, confidence, and a positive outlook during some of the most important years of growth. Bokeh Botanicals - Watercolor Classes with Caroline PorterGeneral InterestBokeh Botanicals - Watercolor Classes with Caroline Porter 2-Hour Watercolor & Ink Class Artist/Instructor: Caroline Porter Date: Thursday, August 20 Time: 6:30–8:30 PM No Experience Required Age Ranges: Ages 14+ (Ages 10+ if accompanied by an adult) Course Overview Master the ever so popular Bokeh Effect in watercolors from Minnesota artist, Caroline Porter. Students will be shown a variety of ways to produce the Bokeh Effect that are easy for beginners to learn. To help gain confidence, students will first practice on scrap paper before working on their final piece. Other techniques covered in this class include wet on wet, wet on dry, and layering with watercolors. To make your piece stand out, students are encouraged to choose their own background colors and botanical designs. Materials include: Paper: Strathmore 300 Series Cold Press 140 lb. and either Strathmore 400 series or Arches 140 lb. cold press paper (depends on availability) Brushes: Round detail brushes ranging in sizes 0-12 Paints: Winsor & Newton Cotman Series Ink: masking fluid, masking tape, pencils, erasers, paper towels, circular stencils, etc. Important Notes All necessary materials are included, but students may bring their own paints or brushes if preferred. The charter bus will depart at 6:30 AM from the Middle School Parking Lot on South Garden Street. The charter bus will leave the State Fair at 4:00 PM, so please plan accordingly. Fee: $33 per person Fee includes transportation only. Please note: Admission to the Minnesota State Fair is not included. Pre-admission tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce Office or at the fair gate. New Ulm Community Education does not sell or provide admission tickets—this registration is for the bus ride only. About the Fair A cherished end-of-summer tradition, the Minnesota State Fair draws nearly 2 million visitors each year. Enjoy hundreds of food options (including many on-a-stick favorites), free entertainment, live music, craft beverages, livestock shows, exhibits, competitions, and so much more. There’s truly something for everyone! What to Expect Once we arrive, you’re free to explore the fairgrounds at your own pace. Be sure to purchase your admission ticket ahead of time or at the gate.
